Alcohol awareness
Did you know that it is advised by the NHS, that men and women should not drink more than 14 units of alcohol per week? Here is some information on what units are and the effects of excessive drinking on our bodies.
What are units? Unit is a way of expressing the quantity of pure alcohol in a drink. One unit is equivalent to 10ml or 8g of pure alcohol, which is about the amount of alcohol that can be processed in an hour by an average adult. Knowing your units will help you to keep your drinking under control.
What are the benefits of drinking within the alcohol limit? Drinking alcohol within the recommended units could prevent damage to organs like the liver, heart, pancreas, brain, and nervous system. Your blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels can also be elevated by heavy drinking, which are risk factors for heart attacks and strokes, and that can also be prevented by following the given recommendations.
